Teacher of Vocational Subjects

The The Ladder School is looking to recruit a brand new staffing team for the opening of the school in January 2019. 

The Ladder School is an academy that is part of The Mercian Trust. The Ladder School is a Free School set up by the trust to offer effective alternative provision for the young people of Walsall.

Based on the edge of Walsall town centre there are excellent links to the local and wider community. The Ladder School will operate under a commissioning model, where local mainstream schools will identify students at risk of permanent exclusion and will move them to The Ladder School, to reform their behaviour and enable them to be successful in their future. 

Teacher of Vocational Subjects must be willing to teach the following subjects up to level two. Applications from those without Qualified Teacher Status will be considered for these posts. 

  • Animal Care
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Food Technology/Catering and Hospitality

The post will involve delivering the three vocational courses to small groups of students in the afternoons and supporting cores subjects in the morning. The post holder should be flexible and willing to adapt to the needs of the school. In return The Ladder School could offer flexible working for the right candidate. 

CPD will be provided to ensure that the successful candidate has the skills to deliver these courses. There will be the opportunity for an exceptional candidate to gain their Qualified Teacher Status. 

GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C are the minimum requirements for this post. We would welcome applications from graduates who are considering teaching as a career. Staff with experience in a school setting are also encouraged to apply. 

Staff should have a real interested in the pastoral aspects of education and should be outstanding in managing challenging behaviours.

Learning Coach – 3 Posts

SCP 16-20 (£18,319 – £19,819)

The Ladder School is an academy that is part of The Mercian Trust. The Ladder School is a Free School set up by the trust to offer effective alternative provision for the young people of Walsall.

Based on the edge of Walsall town centre there are excellent links to the local and wider community. The Ladder School will operate under a commissioning model, where local mainstream schools will identify students at risk of permanent exclusion and will move them to The Ladder School, to reform their behaviour and enable them to be successful in their future.

The Learning Coaches will be required to offer in class and out of lesson support to a group of students. They will be the first point of contact for parents in relation to the students they Key Work. They will be responsible for Key Working up to 14 students.

The applicants should have experience of dealing with students that display challenging behaviour and should have worked in a relevant educational setting. All applicants must have a minimum qualification of Grade C/4 in English and Maths at GCSE level.

A good knowledge of supporting core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and the ability to deliver a vocational course up to level 2 would be an advantage. Vocational courses we offer; Catering, Animal Studies and Travel and Tourism other subjects would be considered.

Staff should have a real interest in the pastoral aspects of education and should be committed to working as part of a close-knit team.

Admin Support Assistant – 2 Posts

The Admin Support Assistants will be responsible in supporting the Head of Operations to ensure that the school runs effectively. They will act as the first point of contact for all enquiries in school

The applicants should have experience of administration, ideally in a school setting. All applicants must have a minimum qualification of Grade C/4 in English and Maths at GCSE level.

A good knowledge of school-based systems such as SIMS, Go 4 Schools, School IP would be an advantage. A specific interest in exams, SIMS, ICT or data would be an advantage.

Staff should have the ability to engage well with students and should be committed to working as part of a close-knit team. Previous applications should not re-apply.

The Site Technician will be responsible in supporting the Head of Operations to ensure that the school is a suitable environment for staff to work and students to learn.

The applicants should have experience of supporting the operational function of a site, ideally in a school setting. All applicants should have a qualification/certificate in Health and Safety or should be willing to undertake this.

A good knowledge of how schools work is crucial to understanding the flexible approach needed to ensure the school can run effectively. Staff should be committed to working as part of a close-knit team.

Applicants that have experience/qualifications in a practical trade would be highly desirable for the position. A flexible approach to working is crucial to this post.

The hours worked can be flexible to ensure we attract the right candidate. It is likely that the hours would be part of a split shift working pattern.
